Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Franc is traditionally a blending varietal – and an important component in the Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon and Rubicon blends. A stand-alone Cabernet Franc is a rare treasure. Some years the Cabernet Franc must be highlighted on its own. This wine has been crafted as a unique, limited production offering.

Vintage Notes

Rainfall in winter and spring of 2017 was bountiful, totaling nearly 50 inches. These conditions allowed for a smooth transition into bloom and fruit set. The beautiful organically farmed fruit used to produce the Inglenook 2017 Cabernet Franc came from a single block in the Bridge Vineyard on the back property of the estate, which was hand harvested on September 27th.

Tasting Notes

Notes Alluringly deep garnet red in color, the 2017 Cabernet Franc is intensely aromatic, with aromatics of deep black cherry, rose petal, black tea, and crushed red currant juxtaposed with a very subtle classic, savory note for which the varietal is known. On the palate, the wine is luxurious, with a velvety texture, notes of red licorice and fennel, and a seamless integration with its French oak component.

Vintage Notes

A relatively dry winter, timely spring rainfall, and moderate temperatures throughout the growing season set the stage for a generous 2018 crop of excellent quality. The Cabernet Franc in this blend is primarily from our “Bridge” block, located in a secluded corner of the Rutherford Bench near Bear Canyon Creek.

Tasting Notes

Opaque ruby red in color, the 2018 Cabernet Franc is a classic expression of the variety, opening on the nose with boysenberry, bittersweet cocoa, violet and a touch of mint and anise. These aromas translate well onto the palate, where the wine is round, polished and displays balance and silkiness in the extended finish.
